Twitter said it lost $132.4-million in the first quarter of 2014, compared with a loss of $27-million the year before. The reason is due to stock compensation costs …. whatever the hell that means. Twitter’s ad revenue more than doubled to $250-million (up from $114-million) and they had 25% more users …. how in the hell can they lose over $132-million when they are making that kind of ad money?
Bayer is purchasing Merck Pharmaceutical in a $14-billion deal. Bayer is a German based company and Merck is widely considered the most research-driven US pharmaceutical company. Merck was forced to lay off about 8,500 employees after they acquired Schering-Plough in 2009 and has never bounced back. Bayer invented the aspirin more than a century ago and their brands include: Alka-Seltzer, Aleve and One-A-Day vitamins. Added to Merck’s Claritan, Coppertone sun-care line, Dr.Scholl’s foot-care products and MiraLAX laxatives and you see how big this deal is!
Here’s good news … motorcycle deaths were down last year for the first time since 1997! According to a report by the Governors Highway Safety Association, there were 7% less motorcycle related deaths last year. The total count was 4,610 fatalities compared to 4,957 in 2012.
