Tomorrow the 140th Kentucky Derby takes place at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The “Run For The Roses” will feature twenty three-year-old thoroughbred horses running 1 1/4 miles for a purse of $2,202,800 (the winner brings home $1,442,800). Post time for the race is 6:32 pm and will be shown on NBC. The “Derby” is the best betting race of the year as pools are huge with worldwide participation. I have had very good luck wagering on the Kentucky Derby and I hope this year is no different. Here are the five horses I will be using in my exactas and trifectas: #20) Wicked Strong, #10) Wildcat Red, #15) Intense Holiday, #17) Candy Boy and the favorite #5) California Chrome. Good luck everybody!
Cinco de Mayo is this coming Monday and there is a huge problem …. there is a lime shortage nationwide and the timing couldn’t be worse. The “Great Lime Crisis of 2014″ has pushed the cost of a case of limes (about 200) from $25 to $120. The cause has been blamed on bad weather, flooding and Mexican drug cartels hijacking lime trucks. Look for less of the green fruit in your margaritas!
US Consumers ramped up their spending in March at the fastest pace in 4 1/2 years. This is a great sign that the economy is finally turning around and improving. The Commerce Department said that consumer spending rose 0.9 percent, the largest gain since April 2009.
Last but not least … Along with the Kentucky Derby, this is a huge sports weekend. The NHL and NBA Playoffs are in full swing, The NASCAR Sprint Cup Race will be held at Talladega Raceway in Alabama, The PGA Golf Tournament is at Quail Hollow in Charlotte and MLB plays a full slate of games …. SpiderMan 2 hits the movie screens this weekend and look for huge ticket sales …. Look for gasoline prices to continue to rise and may hit all time highs this summer. The national average for a gallon of unleaded gas is $3.69 …. Have a great weekend!
