The New York City Police Department will no longer confiscate unused condoms from suspected sex offenders to be used as evidence of prostitution. Under a new law, officers will continue to seize condoms as evidence in sex-trafficking cases but will not use them in support of prostitution cases. The decision has been praised by civil rights groups.
The US Government ran a surplus of $106.9-billion in April and that amount will keep the budget on track for the lowest annual deficit since 2008. The stock market is setting all time highs and the housing market is up …. could it be the economy is finally getting better?
The Washington Monument reopened yesterday after being closed nearly three years due to an earthquake that stuck Washington DC on August 23, 2011. The quake was registered at 5.8-magnitude and caused over 150 cracks in the structure. It took $15-million to complete repairs.
A large section of the west Antarctica ice sheet has begun falling apart and its continued melting seems to be unstoppable. Global warming has helped to destabilize the ice block and Thomas Wagner who runs NASA’s programs on polar ice has said, “There’s nothing to stop it now. This is really happening”. The melting has been tracked by using satellite and air measurements and yearly documentation. Huge rises in the ocean will not be noticeable for many years to come.
Last but not least …. Chrysler lost $690-million in the first quarter of 2014 because of charges related to its merger with Fiat. The company agreed to upgrade its factories to the tune of $700-million …. The DOW and S&P 500 hit all time highs yesterday ….
