Attendance has declined in the past years and that has become a burden on the state as tax dollars are being used to subsidize races. The tracks want to reduce the number of racing dates but they can’t due to a state law. If they reduce the race dates, they could lose the lucrative poker room and slot machine status that generates the majority of their profits. The state has decided to abandon a gaming overhaul this session and will continue to discuss the situation.
