A skateboarder wanted to see how fast he could go and used a steep road in Cape Town, South Africa to record his trip. Decio Lourenco is one of the nation’s top professional, skateboarder but he isn’t the smartest guy in the country. Decio had a driver follow him and record his journey but he never asked for permission from authorities and the road was open to regular traffic. They daredevil was filmed going 68 mph in a 37 mph zone and both Decio and his driver were given speeding and reckless driving tickets!

Astronomers at the SETI Institute along with NASA’s Ames Research Center have discovered a planet circling a star 500 light years away called Kepler-186f. This planet is said to be the closest match to Earth yet discovered. It is slightly larger than Earth and a bit colder but the first planet that they say could sustain human life.

It looks like all those things in Star Trek are slowly coming true. This time scientists have grown stem cells from adults using cloning techniques that can be used to treat a host of ailments from heart disease to blindness. The technique is very similar to the same cloning methods used to clone “Dolly” the sheep back in 1996. They “reprogrammed” an egg cell by removing its DNA and replacing it with that of an adult donor. It was then zapped by electricity which made it divide and multiply. The resulting cells were identical matches to the donor.

This is poetic justice … the conservative lawyer who defended California’s ban on gay marriage in the Supreme Court is now forced to plan his daughter’s upcoming same-sex wedding! Charles Cooper was named “Republican Lawyer of the Year” and was a top official in the Reagan Justice Department. He says, “My views have evolved on issues of this kind and I may not look at things the same way today as I did 10 years ago”. Nice save Chucky!

Last but not least …. Officials say four of five climbers are missing after an avalanche swept the slopes of Mount Everest yesterday …. PepsiCo declared a first-quarter profit of $1.22-billion after selling more snacks around the world and raising prices across the board on its products …. Consumer Reports say that 4.5-million smart phones were lost or stolen last year. Thefts of all types of electronic devices doubled since 2012 …. The NBA Playoffs, NHL Playoffs and Major League Baseball games fill this weekend’s sports calendars. Good luck to your favorite teams! ….. have a great weekend!
