Fifty years ago today Ford Motor Company unveiled the iconic car that helped save the company. The 1964 Mustang has been a part of the American culture ever since. It has been seen in thousands of television programs, magazines and movies. The Mustang has been a classified as “family car” and a “muscle car”. very few automobiles can make that statement. On a personal note, the Mustang was my first car (handed down to me from my mother) and I sure wish I still owned it today. yes, I had one of the first ever 1964 Mustangs.
Here’s something that sucks out loud … starting May 1 anything you buy on Amazon will be subject to a 6% /7% sales tax charge. Retailers across the State of Florida are extremely happy and the state says the tax will generate an additional $70-million in revenue. All purchases made in regular stores are subject to the tax and now so are website purchases.
Nine people are dead, 287 people are missing and many injured after a ferry boat disaster in South Korea. The ”Sewol” ferry was a 480-foot vessel that could hold up to 900 people. It was on an overnight, 14-hour journey from Incheon to the vacation island of Jeju. The ferry sank in 121 foot deep, chilly water. There is still hope to find survivors trapped inside the boat.
Beef prices have reached an all-time high in the USA and they aren’t expected to come down any time soon. Extreme weather this winter has thinned the nation’s beef cattle herds to levels last seen in 1951. back then, there were half as many mouths to fee in the country. The retail cost of “all fresh” USDA, choice-grade beef jumped to a record $5.28 per pound. That same beef cost $3.97 in 2008.
Last but not least …. Italian carmaker Alfa Romeo will ship 800 cars to the USA this year returning to America after a 20-year absence …. Florida grapefruits will be featured on Outback Steakhouse menus in South Korea. There are 110 Outback Steakhouses in the country and grapefruits are extremely popular …. speaking of grapefruits, Florida supplies 80% of all US exports …. The Stanley Cup playoffs continue this evening with games in New York, St.Louis, Denver and San Jose …. Family Dollar Stores plans to close 370 stores across the country.
