Not only is today Tax Day it is also the middle of palindrome week. For those of you who don’t know a palindrome is a word, phrase, number, or other sequence of symbols or elements, whose meaning may be interpreted the same way in either forward or backwards. Today is 4-15-14 backwards it is still 4-15-14. Numerous three letter words (mom, wow, dad) are palindromes as are the words radar, level and racecar. Names include Otto and Hannah and a few sayings include “Dammit, I’m Mad” and “Step On No Pets”.  The sequences will end this Saturday.

As I said, today is Tax Day. Make sure you mail in your return even if you don’t send a payment. The IRS wants to see the numbers and you can work out a payment plan later. If you don’t file, you are considered late and that’s when the problems start. The good news is that three quarters of all tax filers get refunds and penalties only apply to people who owe money. If you aren’t ready to file, fill out a form #4868 and get a six month extension. No explanation is necessary and the IRS is expecting over 12-million extension filings this year alone.

Former MLB Baseball star Brooks Robinson is suing the Seminole Indian Tribe for $10-million. He was hurt when he fell off a stage while at the Hollywood casino doing a charity event two years ago. Robinson’s attorneys are pissed off because the Seminole Tribe has a deal with the state of Florida that says any person who is injured and files a lawsuit can only collect $200,000 per person and $300,000 per incident, the same limits enjoyed by the state when it is sued for negligence. I SCREAM BULLSHIT!!! That is not right and the Seminoles are making millions via their gambling deal, they need to abide to the same laws as any business … not what the state pays.

In Georgia if you grow Vidalia onions you cannot harvest them until the last full week of April. The state doesn’t want the onion to lose it’s renowned sweet taste. Farmers will face fines up to $5,000 and could be banned from using the Vidalia trademark.

Last but not least … a shortage of whitefish due to this winter’s deep freeze is hurting the Jewish holiday of Passover. The demand is high as the fish is used to make the traditional gefilte fish dish …. The search for the missing Malaysian jet is still ongoing. Officials think the aircraft crashed close to Australia but the water is so deep they have to get a special unmanned submarine to look for it …. Southwest Airlines employees will get a record $228-million in profit sharing this year …. have a great Tuesday everybody!
