Taylor Swift was named the top money maker in 2013 by Billboard magazine. The beautiful Swift took the award for her “Red” tour that banked $39-7-million. It was the second time she has finished first in this category. Finishing second was country star Kenny Chesney with $33-million. The rest of the top five has Justin Timberlake pocketing $31.5-million, Bon Jovi bringing in $29.4-million and the Rolling Stones banking $26.2-million!
Dr. Daniel Berry the chairman of orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic said that roughly 7-million people in the United States are living with an artificial hip or knee. Five percent of all Americans have replaced a knee and more than two out of every 100 have some type of artificial joint. The doctor adds that the success of the replacements is so successful the number should increase greatly over the next ten years.
Here’s news that isn’t too earth shaking … there was an automobile crash in Los Angeles. Now here’s the crazy part … the driver of one car hit a tree and disturbed a bee hive. That 51-year old woman was attacked by bees and eventually jumped into a neighboring swimming pool to escape the stinging insects! The other driver ( a 17-year old girl) fell to the street where she was covered by bees. A police officer found her and sprayed her with a fire extinguisher to chase away the swarm. Both drivers were hospitalized with multiple bee stings.
Sbarro filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization for the second time in three years. the struggling pizza/Italian food chain is having a difficult time as they are located in malls and food courts and traffic is dropping rapidly. The Melville, NY company closed 155 locations last month but still has over 800 worldwide.
Last but not least … Chiquita Brands International agree to acquire Fyffes, an Irish fruit and produce distributor for an all-stock deal valued over $526-million … The state of Colorado made $2-million in marijuana taxes in January. It was the world’s first accounting of the recreational pot business … McDonalds sales fell 1.4% last quarter.
