Today is National Wine Drinking Day! Did you know it takes 2 1/2 pounds of grapes to make one bottle of wine? Corks have been used on wine bottle since the 1600′s but the corkscrew wasn’t patented until 1795. The average bottle of wine contains 25 fluid ounces of liquid. Also today in 1885, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain was published and on today’s date in 1901 Hubert Booth invented the vacuum cleaner! Wow … quite a day !!!

Wall Street’s historic gains in 2013 have boosted the value of American’s retirement accounts to record highs. Fidelity Investments says that the average balance of a retirement account is now $89,300. Vanguard says their accounts average $101,650. These are the highest level since these firms began tracking the data in 1999. Wow … I sure missed that boat!

Television advertisements for cigarettes have been banned for 50 years in Great Britain but they are back! This time the ads are for electronic cigarettes. British American Tobacco, one of Europe’s biggest tobacco companies, started showing ads for its Vype Electronic Cigarettes. The television ads are possible by a loophole in the British advertising code written years before e-cigarettes came into use.

One of the best gold medals the USA has won happened yesterday as ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White finished first. The couple has been skating together for the past 17 years when they were eight and nine years old in Michigan. Last Olympics they finished second to the Canadian team of Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, but turned the tables this time around. Congratulations to both!

Last but not least … Pop star and judge on The Voice, Christina Aquilera got engaged on Valentine’s Day to longtime boyfriend Matt Rutler. The pair has been together for three years and Rutler is a film producer … The Lego Movie earned a near-record-breaking $69.1-million when it debuted the weekend of February 7-9. The company also has six Legoland Parks around the world including one in Winter Haven, FL that opened in 2011 … Happy Birthday to actor Molly Ringwald and Yoko Ono who turns 81 today ….
